Gear, sets and runes in Archero 2
Most of your total power comes not from your hero but from the gear and runes accumulated across your account. This is the system worth understanding correctly from day one, because upgrade materials spent in the wrong place cannot be recovered.

The six equipment slots
Every character has the same slots, and gear is shared account-wide.
| Slot | Main role | When to prioritise it |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Sets your firing pattern and base damage | Always first — the largest single effect on damage |
| Body armour | Health and damage reduction | Second — this is what gets you past stages you're stuck on |
| Helmet | Defensive stats and secondary bonuses | After armour |
| Boots | Movement speed and survivability | More important than it looks in projectile-heavy content |
| Ring | Specialised offensive bonuses | Once your core pieces are settled |
| Amulet | The most varied special effects | Once your core pieces are settled |
Rarity tiers and upgrade rules
This is where new players lose the most resources.
Gear climbs through rarity tiers up to a maximum for each piece, and the game distinguishes ordinary gear from top-grade gear (what players usually call S gear). The difference isn't only raw stats — it's also when that piece unlocks its major quality skill. Top-grade gear reaches that unlock a full tier earlier than ordinary gear does.
Rules worth following
- Don't push ordinary gear past the middle tiers. Use it to get through the current stretch, and save the rest of your materials for top-grade pieces.
- Invest only in pieces you'll keep. If you're unsure you'll still have it next month, it's not ready for heavy investment.
- Weapon first. More damage means shorter runs, which means everything else farms faster too.
- Salvage instead of hoarding. Duplicate gear sitting in your bag provides no stats at all.
Equipment sets
Wearing several pieces from the same set unlocks additional bonuses.
The game has several sets, each pushing a different playstyle. Ones players discuss often include sets built around area damage for clearing groups of enemies, and sets whose pieces are easier to obtain, which makes them friendlier to free-to-play accounts.
Choosing a set without reading a long table
- Clearing stages too slowly → pick a set that boosts area damage
- Dying often → pick a set that boosts survivability or health recovery
- Bosses take too long → pick a set that boosts single-target damage
- Not enough pieces yet → pick a set farmable from content you already reach. A complete workable set beats an incomplete best-in-slot one.
The rune system
Think of it as a second equipment system with its own way of gaining power.
Runes provide both stats and special effects that change how you play. The core mechanic is fusing three runes of the same rarity into one rune of the next rarity up. That means hoarding low-rarity runes accomplishes nothing — fuse them steadily and systematically.
The order to work in
- Fill every rune slot first, even at low rarity, for the base stats
- The moment you have three duplicates at the same rarity, fuse them — don't let them sit
- Once higher-rarity runes appear, decide whether you're building for PvE or PvP
PvE and PvP want different runes
| Content | What it needs | Rune direction |
|---|---|---|
| PvE (chapters, dungeons, tower) | Sustained damage over a long fight, plus survivability | Runes that boost your main weapon and overall damage |
| PvP (Arena) | Large damage early in a short fight | Runes built around burst attacks |
Priority order, summarised
- Fill everything firstAll six gear slots and every rune slot, even with low-quality items
- Upgrade the weapon firstExtra damage compounds — it makes farming everything else faster
- Then armour and helmetFixes dying repeatedly, which is the usual reason a push stalls
- Bank materials for top-grade gearDon't dump them into temporary pieces beyond what you need right now
- Fuse runes consistentlyCheck for a set of three every time you log in
